Note that I realize my movies and animations alone. It's entirely my creation: film, edit, make sound piece, special effect, drawings, etc...
2009:
◦Blackie #1, 0"43.
This is Blackie, a small black and unidentified living being. He wants to integrate human society and try to understand the human comportment. For that he goes in a park and try to
approach children, thinking it will be more easy.
Blackie is a kind of autobiographic character in the way that is a too nice person. Often, too nice persons forgive and forget a lot of things, saying "it's unusual, normally it's not like that".
But Blackie don't know what's "usual" and he is really naive, so he understands the world and what's happened to him has "the commune way".
2008:
◦Jack, king of the
Dancefloor, 1"14.
This is Jack. Jack is a stick-man. Jack doesn't speak but he uses the body language... He is an amazing dancer!
That's the first opus of Jack. The first intention is clearly to learn more about animation and to master better the computer program. It's too a movement study: how to move an
animated humanoid character in a credible way? So it's the way I create Jack the stick-man, to have a humanoid character, simple to animated. But working with him for a long time, I
gave him a name and I think about what could happen to him, so at least I turn it in a funny "adventure". Jack is definitely a funny character who live to dance! He is like the Japanese: he
has a boring life, with a boring job, etc., but instead to go to the karaoke, he loves to dance.
◦Jack n'entend plus la
musique, 1"11.
Jack decides to hang out to the "fête de la musique" of Caen, but as every year, it's worse than the past year and the sound is bad, you can't ear nothing anywhere! Jack try to find the
better place to listen to music and dance!
The second episode with Jack who still love dance! In this one I tried to integrate video background. It's the first test I made trying to melt video and animation. That intrigue me, I want to
find a way to melt this both technics! Note this movie have been realized and presented to the "marathon du court" at Caen, that's mean I had an imposed theme and 48h to do a movie.
◦Do you remember?,
5"58, triptych.
A child is playing in a panoramic landscape projected on three screens. The background is one but there is one child by screen, the same child. And the soundtrack seems to tell the
same story as what is projected but in a different way.
This is my first installation. With this triptych, I continue to explore the memory. This installation is supposed to be immersive, quiet. I tried to use
some universal pictures. I filmed it in the country: everybody went one day to the country, the most of the people. In the same way, when the child is riding his bike on the small hill, you know
what he is feeling, cause you ever do it. It's work in the same way with the soundtrack, I used some casual, daily sounds. So the installation is supposed to remember you some details of your own
memory, using a kind of universal language, and bring back you to your more specifics souvenirs. I use a memory mechanism well know from Proust, something casual, without really importance, will
maybe wake up something in your brain and remember you something. That the reason too I use black and white. You can't date the movie from the color of the picture. This way, there is less time
indicator. The child has a simple hair cut and is wearing simple clothes. There is no color s able to informs you about a date or a year. The most meaning element about the period has been filmed
the movie is the bike. All the movie itself is constructed around the idea of souvenir. When you try to remember you something it's often running away, you jump from one remember to another in a
global idea, but your not able to remember you a full moment. Everything is melting and at least maybe it's not really your real memory but what you thing about it, what you wish it happened to
you. So you have these three screens, with three apparent different action and a different soundtrack but everything could be put in the good order and make a chronological event. And if you try
to follow one action, you miss the others (other screens and sound), it's probably as frustrating than when you try to remember something but you succeed partially.
2007:
◦His Dream,
1"00.
A child become multiple to be able to play his favorites games in the same time.
With this movie, I begun to explore two themes which interested me a lot and don't stop to question myself everyday: childhood and memory. Here i tried to explored specifically the
"child's games" and particularly the picture I have of it as an adult and the memory I have of me playing child's game mixed with the experience of the young actor (my brother Alix) who
actually play these game everyday. That was hard to realize because Alix didn't understand that I was serious doing it, that I was trying to make a movie and that could ask seriousness and to
show rigor. For him it was just an other game. That was definitely an interesting point and made an interesting result cause is playing physic game like swinging or ride his bike and in the same
time is playing with the camera and me, trying to make quickly funny faces and movements without any fuss.
◦Red Incantation, 1"00.
Some lines come, draw a face but a red element come disturb the scene.
This is my first animation. Here, I propose a kind of self-portrait. At this period of my life, my father had a cancer (which finally kill him). I saw him suffered a lot, tumors were growing
in him but he was so careful with us, he prepared us to his death. That is an experience which change me forever. It was like a wave which submerge me and abandon me on the beach. So the drawing
is in black and white, first some lines cross the screen and create a face. The face livens up little by little and a red element come disturbed the face and finally change it.
